Leaders of Bihar’s ruling coalition on Sunday demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be stripped of its overall authority, saying the agency was being used for political purposes by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. Nine states have revoked their blanket approval of the CBI’s ability to investigate cases within their borders, including West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Meghalaya.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shivanand Tiwari told PTI that the grand coalition government of Bihar must revoke the approval given to the CBI because of how federal agencies are being abused to target political opponents of the BJP.
“Furthermore, the option should also be explored by the state government to approach the judiciary to check the misuse of central agencies,” he said.
“I have to say that the central investigative agencies have lost their credibility under the NDA regime,” he said.

“All central investigative agencies work with political motives and never act against BJP leaders. Our grand alliance government in Bihar should immediately withdraw the blanket consent given to the CBI, reducing the powers of the agency in the state,” he said.
Mehboob Alam, a CPIML(L) state legislator, said there was no doubt that the federal government was abusing its power to overthrow non-BJP state governments. “The NDA government at the Center is dictatorial and they are trying to suppress opposition voices using central agencies. This should stop now and the Bihar government must withdraw its consent to the CBI,” he said.
On condition of anonymity, a senior RJD official said the Bihar government had started taking steps to revoke the approval given to the CBI.
Seven parties make up the “Mahagthbandhan” in Bihar, including JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPIML(L), CPI, CPI(M) and HAM. Together, these parties have more than 160 MPs in the 243-member assembly.

According to section 6 of the DSPE Act of 1946, the state government must give special approval in states where general consent has not been granted or where general consent does not apply to the proceeding. individual.
The extension of the jurisdiction of the CBI under section 5 of the DSPE Act of 1946 can only be considered when the state government has given its authorization.
The CBI also receives cases from the Supreme Court and High Courts for inquiry or investigation, and in these situations, no notification conveying consent under Section 5 or 6 of the DSPE Act 1946.
