Mount Union University

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Following weather delays, Mount Union University’s Martin Luther King Day of Service was held on January 22, mobilizing 285 volunteers who worked at 10 sites to complete projects for agencies and churches of the region.

Participating local students were Makara Eick from Bloomingdale’s, Faith Hoobler from Hammondsville and Nicole Rawson from Toronto.

Participating community partners included Bags with a Blessing, Compassion Delivered, the Valentine Project, YWCA of Alliance, Feed My Sheep Ministries, Union Avenue United Methodist Church, Hartville Thrift Shoppe, Alliance for Children and Families, Alliance Parks and Recreation, Family Empowerment Ministries Inc. and the Alliance community pantry.

Coordinated by Mount Union’s Regula Center for Public Service, this event is the largest of Mount Union’s service projects offered each year.

“We are so grateful for the flexibility and understanding shown by our volunteers and community partners as we worked to reprogram and meet community needs,” said Abby Schroeder, director of the Regula Center.

OXFORD, Ohio — University of Miami students who are ranked in the top 20% of undergraduate students in each division for the fall 2021-22 semester have been named to the Dean’s List Recognizing Academic Excellence .

The local students are: Carlo Biasi from Steubenville; Livia Foust of Mingo Junction; Morgan Green of Steubenville; Sloane Lewis of Wintersville; and Cheyenne Shrieve of Wintersville.
