Summer 2022: Chicago Loop Alliance announces dates for Sundays on the State with live music, food and road closures

CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago Loop Alliance announces the return dates of State Sundays, the award-winning event series that closes parts of State Street in the Loop to vehicular traffic on select Sundays this summer. Sundays on State is free and open to the public and will take place this year with an expanded footprint on State Street from Lake to Monroe on July 24, August 7 and 21, and September 4. Named “Best New Event of the Yearby Time Out Chicago and one of the New York Times’ “Eight Great Places (in Chicago) to Visit in Hot Weather,” Sundays on State will once again fill portions of State Street with active recreation, food and drinks, shopping, and entertainment in the heart of everyone’s neighborhood – the Loop. Street closures will last from 5:00 a.m. to midnight and the event itself will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Each week will feature interactive programming, performers , shopping, food, drink and unexpected surprises. on State continues to accelerate the city’s economic recovery efforts, unite the community and create joy.”

Chicago Loop Alliance will partner with Loop businesses and community members across the city to create a family experience that will draw more people to everyone’s neighborhood – the Loop. State Sunday programming will include hands-on outdoor recreation, theatrical performances, art exhibits, immersive experiences, live music and entertainment.

The program uses State Street from Lake to Monroe. Part of Madison will be closed to vehicular traffic, while Lake, Randolph, Washington and Monroe will remain open east to west so retail businesses, hotels, restaurants and residential spaces will still have vehicular access.

Sundays on State is a project of Chicago Loop Alliance in partnership with the Chicago Loop Alliance Foundation, the City of Chicago and SSA#1-2015. Supporting sponsors are Macy’s and Target.
