The People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an amalgamation of five parties in Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday condemned the decision of the Directorate of Execution (ED) to summon the mother of the chairman of the Democratic Party of the People (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, in an alleged money laundering case.
“The convocation of the widow of the former Union Minister of the Interior, the late Mufti Mohammad Syed, by the ED is very humiliating. There are not enough words to condemn such coercive acts. The PAGD strongly condemns the convocation and demands an immediate end to these vindictive measures, ”said Gupkar alliance spokesman MY Tarigami.
Mr Tarigami said Ms Mufti’s mother was a frail old lady and summoning her was nothing more than a pressure tactic from the government. “The irony is that the summons was issued just hours after the PDP refused to meet with the visiting boundary commission,” Tarigami said.
He said silencing the voices of dissent by using investigative agencies against political opponents was unacceptable. “This is nothing more than part of the vindictive policies aimed at suppressing dissent and disagreements and silencing the real demand for annulment of the unilateral and unconstitutional decisions of August 5, 2019,” he said. added.
