Thermo Fisher Scientific has partnered with Ortho Clinical Diagnostics to provide its MAS quality controls and LabLink xL quality assurance software for use with their VITROS analyzers.
As per the agreement, Ortho Clinical users will have full access to MAS third-party quality controls and the LabLink xL web quality assurance program. This program offers integrated real-time quality control monitoring with automatic uploading of data entry and user-friendly reports for audits.
Additionally, users can access features such as support, service, and quality control routings for certain reagent lots.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Clinical Diagnostics President Tina Liedtky said, “Our MAS quality control products help clinical laboratories maximize productivity with state-of-the-art control material consolidation, longer shelf life stability. longer than industry standard and open vial stability which reduces the cost and time to recalibrate new batches.
Separately, Thermo Fisher and the West Coast Center for Metabolomics at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) launched the Center of Excellence in Clinical Metabolomics.
Located on the UC Davis Sacramento campus, the facility will facilitate targeted and untargeted metabolic profiling for large population-based cohorts in translational research and precision medicine.
The Center will create regulated processes for the research community, which will include end-to-end metabolic profiling workflows and enhanced liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS) techniques.
The protocols necessary for analytical controls to evaluate instrument performance and training courses for metabolomics employees, researchers and senior laboratory managers will also be developed by the Center.
The alliance will use Thermo Fisher’s Orbitrap technology.
Leveraging the new generation of Orbitrap-based mass spectrometers integrated with the Thermo Scientific Vanquish Duo UHPLC system for high throughput, the Center aims to produce higher quality data.
Additionally, instrument integration will help create streamlined workflows required for large-scale studies and translational research.
Last month, Thermo Fisher launched its Ion AmpliSeq SARS-CoV-2 Insight research test for the early detection of emerging and known variants of the Covid-19 virus from samples with reduced viral loads.
