Rory Scialabba, a Westfield resident and a graduate of Calais School in Whippany, is one of two recipients of the Joe Gorga Fellowship, awarded by the Alliance of Private Special Education Schools of New Jersey. The Alliance is a nonprofit group of 40 state-approved private special education schools in northern and central New Jersey that is committed to achieving great outcomes for students with disabilities.
The Calais School is a state-approved private specialized therapeutic education school which welcomes pupils from kindergarten to 12th grade as well as multiple learning disabilities as well as anxiety and behavioral disorders. mood and autism spectrum.
Rory plans to study sports management at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania. He will use the prize funds for the cost of Misericordia’s alternative learning program. A volunteer coach for the Westfield YMCA Flyers Track Club, Rory also ran cross country and track and field for Westfield High School and was named captain of this year’s winter track team. In his sophomore year, he was named most improved cross country racer.

Rory recently graduated from Calais School and will soon go to Misericordia University in Pennsylvania to study Sports Business Management. The Joe Gorga Fellowship was established by the Alliance of Private Special Education Schools of New Jersey to support and empower educators and advocates who serve students with special needs through education, support for the information and advocacy. The late Joe Gorga was a special education administrator and longtime advocate for students with disabilities. He was also one of the leaders of the founding council of the Alliance.
