New Patina Art Center exhibition
Artist Perris Mackey, also known as p_ThaNerd, will be featured at the Patina Arts Center beginning Friday.
“The Pieces That Fit” exhibit opens from 5-9 p.m. at the gallery at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW to downtown Guangzhou.
The Cleveland-based collage artist creates intricate works from “upcycled” materials, primarily using comic books, as well as newspapers or magazines. Mackey’s creative work began in 2011 after being inspired by street artists such as Banksy, Patina Arts Center said.
He was also inspired by the award-winning 2010 documentary on street art, “Exit Through the Gift Shop”.
“I was so drawn to this documentary, enamored with it, that I had to get involved in some way,” Mackey said.
Mackey’s work shifted in 2014 from street art to his current multimedia contemporary art style.
P_ThaNerd transforms comics into familiar fictional and non-fictional characters and icons, explained Alaska Thompson, executive director of Patina.
“As an outsider artist excelling in the contemporary art world, p_ThaNerd creates works of uninhibited expression,” she said in the press release.
Patina Arts Center will also feature works by Zach Finn, as well as its resident artists.
Tribute to Frankie Valli
“Lights Out,” a Frankie Valli and Four Seasons tribute band, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lions Lincoln Theater, 156 Lincoln Way E in Massillon.

“Lights Out” incorporates a cappella hit songs from the 1950s through the 1990s, as well as the sounds of Frankie Valli. Songs featured will include “Sherry”, “Walk Like a Man” and “December ’63”.
Stark County Student Art Show
The 30th annual Stark County High School Art Show will be on view through April 3 at the Canton Museum of Art, 1001 Market Ave. NOT.
The exhibition is supported by the Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland State University, Malone University, Myers School of Art at the University of Akron, Otterbein University and Walsh University.
The exhibition opened on Tuesday in the lower galleries of the museum. Admission to the Student Art Exhibit, as well as “POP!: A Celebration of Pop Art”, is free. Wearing a mask will be compulsory for all visitors to the museum.
All pieces are original works created as part of each participating school’s program and chosen by the school’s art teacher. Works are judged on both originality and technical ability, the museum said.
Between 100 and 150 entries will be posted at Stark County schools.
An open house and awards ceremony will be held at the museum from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on April 1 during the first Friday activities in downtown Guangzhou. The rewards part starts at 6 p.m.
Mount Union Student Art Exhibit
Mount Union University’s Sally Otto Gallery hosts the annual student art exhibition through April 7.
The exhibit features works by 13 Mount Union students, including prints, paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures. The gallery is on the campus of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts at 67 West Simpson St. in Alliance.
The student artists are Kaylie Carson from Lac Milton, Shelby Chung from Thornville, Abigail Collinsworth from Westerville, Susan Denning from Alliance, Andrea Dietary from Doylestown, Amber Hume from Homeworth, Dorian Lindsay from Twinsburg, Caitlyn Mitzel from Alliance, Rita Pollock from Mentor, Sara Severns of Louisville, Ava Smith of Northwood, Jake Visintine of Ashland and Abbey West of Alliance.
Tribute to the “Golden Girls”
A tribute show to the “Golden Girls” will be presented on Saturday at La Pizzaria in the township of Jackson.
Stardust Dinner Theater presents the show, which pays tribute to the four actors who performed “The Golden Girls” on the popular TV show. The performance will also include a murder mystery twist with audience participation.
Dinner is included with tickets at $38. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Pizzaria is at 3656 Dressler Road NW. Seats are assigned. Meals include chicken parmesan, sides, salad, roll, drink and dessert.

Chorus for a Cause and Harmony Ringers
A Chorus for a Cause and the Harmony Ringers will perform in Stark County early next month.
A Chorus for a Cause will perform at 4 p.m. April 3 at Zion United Church of Christ, 415 S Main St., North Canton, and at 7 p.m. April 9 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 127 Cherry Road NE, Massillon.
A choir for a cause will sing in tribute to veterans and military families. A medley of songs will pay tribute to each branch of the armed forces.
No ticket is necessary. Check or cash donations will be collected to support the Military Family Center, which is operated by Pegasus Farms (suggested donation is $10-$15), according to a news release.
The Military Family Center helps veterans, active duty military, first responders and their families overcome conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, physical disabilities and traumatic brain injury.
Harmony Ringers, a handbell choir, will perform a variety of songs from popular movies, including music from “Les Miserables,” “I’m a Believer” and “The Greatest Showman.”
Harmony Ringers concerts are free, but a goodwill donation is appreciated to help maintain the bells, according to a press release.
