The Five Eyes Alliance collects and fabricates evidence that intends to show that China is “politically infiltrating Western countries”, with the aim of tarnishing China’s image in the world, learned the Global Times from a source close to the case.
Analysts said it was not the first time the Five Eyes had conspired to target China and other countries. As an alliance designed for intelligence sharing, it has carried out covert or overt operations like theft, interference, infiltration, subversion, and coercion. The Five Eyes alliance is not so much an intelligence-sharing group as an anti-China club.
The Global Times has learned that Five Eyes intelligence agencies deliberately interrogate and harass Chinese students and scholars for questionable motives or for no reason. Some even approach Chinese communities and push them to become agents of the Eyes. Although the Eyes are not so sharp in distinguishing right from wrong, they are adept at meddling in the internal affairs of China, among other countries of the world.
In Hong Kong, the consulates of these countries became the headquarters and command of interference and subversion where their consular officials contacted anti-China forces and separatists to incite violence by providing financial support and training, the source said.
The alliance has been obsessed with fabricating cases of “espionage” and “infiltration” of China simply based on shoddy intelligence. In 2020, Australian spy authorities raided the home of New South Wales state legislator Shaoquett Moselmane for alleged links to China. But the political influence cited in Australia on behalf of China has never been proven by evidence.
In recent years, the Five Eyes alliance is also stepping up its efforts to steal and attack other countries in the area of cybersecurity.
A latest report from Anzer, a cybersecurity intelligence platform, showed that U.S. military and government cyber agencies remotely stole more than 97 billion global internet data and 124 billion phone records over the past past 30 days, which become a major source of intelligence for the United States and other “Five Eyes” countries.
The report obtained by the Global Times has once again exposed the “dark hand” operations of Tailored Access Operations (TAO), the cyber warfare intelligence agency under the US National Security Agency (NSA) , which uses advanced cyberattack weapons to “indiscriminately seize” the data of Internet users around the world.
A cybersecurity analyst told the Global Times on condition of anonymity earlier that TAO is the largest and most important part of the NSA’s intelligence division.
Founded in 1998, TAO’s primary responsibility is to use the Internet to covertly access competitors’ privileged information, including covertly invading target countries’ key information infrastructure to steal account codes, break or destroy computer security systems, monitoring network traffic, stealing privacy and sensitive data, and accessing phone calls, emails, network communications, and messages.
TAO also assumes an important role. When the US President issues orders to disable or destroy communications networks or information systems in other countries, TAO will provide the appropriate cyber attack weapons, and the attacks will be carried out by the US Cyber Warfare Command , the report revealed.
According to the report, TAO’s various departments are made up of more than 1,000 active military personnel, network hackers, intelligence analysts, academics, hardware and software designers, and electronic engineers. The whole organizational structure consists of a “center” and four “divisions”.
The “center” employs over 600 people and is responsible for receiving, sorting and synthesizing account passwords and important sensitive information stolen worldwide from networked information systems remotely controlled by TAO.
Knowingly violating the basic norms of the virtual world and the real world, the Five Eyes have tried to undermine the growth of some foreign companies.
In the name of protecting national security, the United States has tightened its grip on the export of chips and other advanced technologies to China. He also encouraged Canada to detain the chief financial officer of Huawei, a major Chinese ICT smart device supplier, for about three years without any legitimate grounds. The Five Eyes also adds foreign competitors to the technology blockade and exclusion blacklists. The five countries have decided to ban Chinese Huawei and ZTE from their 5G networks.
In addition to taking relatively covert means to achieve its political agenda, the Five Eyes also resorts to brutal and bloody wars to overthrow the regimes of other countries, showing no respect for international law, sovereignty, and human life.
Take the example of the 20-year war in Afghanistan, where hardly any participating country withdrew with unstained hands. In 2019, 11 British detectives told a team of BBC and Sunday Times investigators there was credible evidence of war crimes and cover-ups in Afghanistan.
In 2020 Australia released the Brereton Report into the misconduct of its troops in Afghanistan. He found evidence linking 25 members of the Australian Defense Force to the killing of 39 Afghan civilians and POWs. Scandals like this are nothing new. In 2009, Australian soldiers were shown in some photos drinking beer from the prosthetic leg of an Afghan in Uruzgan province. Prior to the hasty withdrawal, the United States killed 10 civilians, including two-year-old children, in a drone strike, only to find the target was civilians like so many times before.
Turning their eyes and dirty hands to other countries, the five countries showed no interest in putting their house in order. Most countries have not addressed their dark legacy of mistreating the indigenous population through slaughter, expulsion and forced assimilation. They still have to pay the historic debt and make compensations as indigenous communities are deprived of the right to life and other fundamental rights on the economic, cultural and political fronts, the source said.
The storyline for the Five Eyes’ sneaky moves might keep changing, but the end result would remain the same. The scheme to discredit and disrupt the development of other countries would only be met with contempt and ultimately lead to outright failure, the source pointed out.
