BSA is currently seeking a director or senior executive to support BSA’s global policy advocacy, including BSA’s work on state privacy legislation. The Manager/Senior Executive will draft position papers, policy documents and other safeguards, primarily related to privacy, cybersecurity and data flow advocacy, and other issues as required.
During state legislative sessions, the Director/Senior Director will play an active role in directing the BSA’s work on state privacy issues, including following state privacy laws, working collaboratively with our Legislative Strategy team to engage with state legislators and analyzing proposals to understand their effect on BSA member companies. The Director/Senior Director will also identify and lead the development and execution of public policy initiatives in other areas, representing BSA before policy makers and industry representatives. The manager/senior executive will also monitor cybersecurity issues, including the implementation of executive orders related to cybersecurity.
The ideal candidate will have strong policy development experience in the United States and/or other regions where the BSA is active. The Manager/Senior Manager will work closely with BSA’s global team, its members and government officials around the world.

Professional experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Law or other relevant graduate degree an asset.
- Minimum of 3 to 8 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent writing ability.
- Experience in privacy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity or data flow an asset.
- Ability to conduct research independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively, effectively and transparently with others to develop plans, documents and achieve desired results.
- Ability to think and act strategically.
- Knowledge of the software industry an asset.
Main responsibilities:
- Support the global policy team by researching and writing position papers and filings in areas such as privacy, cybersecurity, data flows and others as required.
- Support BSA engagement on state privacy issues, including identifying and analyzing key issues in state privacy law, preparing related advocacy materials, and collaborating with the BSA Legislative Strategy Team to engage with policy makers.
- Assist in the formulation of cybersecurity policy positions and advocacy at federal and state levels.
- Identify and lead the development and execution of public policy initiatives in other areas, national and international, as required.
- Work with the global policy team to shape and influence the activities of governments in key markets around the world regarding developments affecting the global software industry on relevant policy issues.
- Monitor national and international policies and industry developments.
- Represent the BSA before government officials and at industry meetings.
- Communicate, coordinate and collaborate with BSA members, keeping them informed, engaged and aligned.
- Work closely with BSA staff and consultants worldwide.
