Dawn Jones, Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Intel
CONTEXT: As Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Vice President of Social Impact, Dawn Jones leads Intel’s global diversity and inclusion (D&I;) strategy, its Office of Corporate Responsibility, the Intel Foundation, and corporate social policy work. Its direction of social impact work sets the standards for how Intel not only ensures the organization has a representative workforce, but also focuses on Intel’s human rights, reporting on sustainability and setting corporate targets for social policy engagement.
SOURCE OF PRIDE: “There are many accomplishments I’m proud of, but the one I’m most proud of is my involvement in launching the Alliance for Global Inclusion, a coalition formed by tech industry leaders who will share their diversity and inclusion measures The goal is to create an equitable workplace, industry and society by advancing leadership representation, inclusive language, inclusive product development and STEM readiness in communities underserved. Just one year after its launch, the Alliance has doubled the number of its engagement partners. My position at Intel gives me the opportunity to participate in the creation of a workforce and a inclusive communities with diverse talents.
SURPRISING FACT: “A little-known fact about me is that I like to read real or fictional CIA/FBI detective stories; it has always fascinated me to see how they use science to solve complex cases. Visiting Quantico is on my bucket list.
SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: “It’s so hard to name just one because I’ve had so many women who have supported me throughout my career. But, there are two who have had a significant impact on who I am. The first would be Shelly Esque, who led Intel’s corporate affairs organization, including the Intel Foundation, for many years, saw my potential, invested in me, and supported my growth. Shelly inspired me to push the boundaries of what is possible as a leader. The other would be Barbara Whye; she pushed me to think differently, ask tough questions, and was clear and direct with me about my development. She led her organization with integrity and boldness, modeling what it means to lead D&I.; Both of these women continue to be integral to my career and personal growth.
