Concerts in the Park on the march in Geneva – Chicago Tribune

The Geneva Park District began this summer offering its annual Concerts in the Park series at River Park along the Fox River in the city.

The free events will take place on Wednesdays in July, with the first show taking place last Wednesday.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to River Park, 151 N. River Lane, for the shows. The concerts will begin at 7 p.m. A food truck, as well as beer from Solemn Oath Brewery, will be available for purchase, organizers said.

Upcoming shows this month include rock band Sushi Roll on July 13, “Caribbean Rock” band Mr. Myers on July 20, and country music band Wild Daisy on July 27.

River Park is on the west side of the Fox River, just north of Route 38. Parking is available on the street and in nearby city parking lots.

In case of bad weather, the concerts will be cancelled. For more information on Concerts in the Park, go to www.genevaparks.org or call 630-232-4542.

Volunteers are needed to deliver frozen meals to seniors in southern Kane County on July 13 and 20, according to AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP group officials.

Volunteers will pick up the meal boxes from the Aurora Senior Center between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and deliver them to seniors.

To volunteer, contact Deborah Lee Sheppard, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Coordinator, to request registration information by emailing [email protected] or calling 630-553-5777.

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP of Kendall and Southern Kane Counties provides people 55 and older the opportunity to help the community through volunteer service, group officials said.

The St. Charles Business Alliance is opening applications for the Made in St. Charles program, a new program that showcases and celebrates St. Charles businesses and their makers, artisans and creators.

Applications for the program will be accepted until August 17. Applications can be sent to the Business Alliance at [email protected], and forms are available at www.stcalliance.org/stcmakers.

Only businesses that have a brick-and-mortar location in St. Charles and manufacture their own products in St. Charles are eligible for nomination, officials said. Companies can submit their own application for the program.

The program was initiated by the Business Development and Sales Committee, which is run by volunteers from the St. Charles Business Alliance. For the first year of the program, the committee will accept five nominations from companies, but hopes to see the program grow in the coming years, according to officials.

St. Charles Business Alliance executive director Jenna Sawicki said the program is one way to support businesses in St. Charles.

“St. Charles is home to many companies that make their products here in St. Charles,” Sawicki said in a press release about the program. “We want to celebrate these creators and encourage everyone to check them out.”
