Cole Custer – $9,800 – 2nd and up

After holding no races in 2021 for Covid-related reasons, the Nascar circuit is returning to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. The Auto Club is a 2-mile track that drivers would describe as a “driver’s track” and one of the fastest in the program. Since we took 2020, the experience on this track for the Xfinity level is pretty thin. One rider with experience here is Cole Custer as he returns to the Xfinity Circuit to race this race. One of at least four races Custer will race this year for SS-Green Light Racing. In 2018 Custer finished sixth in that race, while in 2019 Custer started third and took the checkered flag, while leading 29 laps in his victory. Custer in his semi-short career has always had success on the big tracks, whereas that’s what we get in the 2 mile here. I’m not in love with the starting position here, but I think Custer has the equipment to hold the front. The issue will be whether he can get around Allmendinger and get quick spins. If you’d rather spend there, Ty Gibbs starting 12th gives us the best chance of winning while giving us differential, you’ll just have to pay top dollar.

Anthony Alfredo – $7,300 – From 28th

A new year but the same message – value at the Xfinity level is not easy to find and there will be plenty of outliers throughout the year. Although it is in the “basic games” section, each week we will have to target a cheap driver to get the exposure to the people we want. A base game is by no means an “all-in” game if there are multiple entries, so we have to tread lightly unless we get absolute value out of the park. Alfredo gets a good price and a starting position far back here for a rider with solid experience and success. Alfredo raced in the Cup Series last year, finishing 30th in the standings out of 36 races. He ran 19 Xfinity races in 2020, with two top fives and nine top ten finishes. In 2020 Alfredo ran this race and finished sixth after starting 13th.
