HOUSTON – The Houston Afghanistan Resettlement Fund and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner are hosting a press conference Tuesday at City Hall to welcome newly resettled Afghan refugees arriving in Houston due to the conflict in Afghanistan.

The four CEOs of the resettlement agencies will share updates on Afghan resettlement, announce new donations to the Fund, and reaffirm the need for continued community support. Additionally, an Afghan staff member from SIV will share his 6-year journey as an Afghan translator with the US Marines and his parole relocation experience to Houston.
In September 2021, the CEOs of The Alliance, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston and YMCA of Greater Houston announced that they have formed HARF to increase support for approved Afghan families relocating to the Houston area.

The Houston Afghan Resettlement Fund has already helped more than 1,000 Afghan refugees collectively and predicts that around 6,000 more will arrive in Houston by 2022.
