Dr Elizabeth Taraski was inducted as President of the Suffolk Rotary Club last month by District Governor Kenny Janes.
Rotary’s mission is “to serve others, promote integrity, and advance global understanding, goodwill, and peace through our community of business, professional, and community leaders.”
“Imagine Rotary” is Rotary International’s theme for this year.
Taraski is President and CEO of the Nansemond River Preservation Alliance; Hampton Roads Sanitation District Commissioner; chair of the community catering advisory committee; and a former member of the Nansemond Ordnance Depot and the Suffolk Business Women’s Club. Previously, she served as president of the Suffolk American Association of University Women.
“Over the next year, The Rotary Club of Suffolk will engage in projects that help educate and encourage citizens to know they can make a difference,” Taraski said. “Collaborating with businesses, nonprofits and civic organizations, schools, and government agencies will be the underlying framework.”
During the 2022-23 term, the Suffolk Rotary Club and the North Suffolk Rotary Club are working closely with the Suffolk Public Schools administration to launch the nationally recognized program All Suffolk Readings program in the city’s 11 public elementary schools. More than 6,000 students and their families will participate in the literacy program.
Each year the Suffolk Rotary Club provides scholarships to two seniors from Suffolk’s five grammar schools and grants support to 20 non-profit organisations.
The club meets weekly on Thursdays for lunch and introductions from 1-2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on Constance Road.
